Shirley Kellys father came from Kuusamo, Finland. Her mother was a second generation American Finn whose parents came from Sievi, Finland. Shirleys parents met in Copper County, they had a farm. Her father also build boats and fished. They had 14 children, 3 boys and 11 girls. Shirleys husband Rex is of Irish descent.
Shirley and Rex have a hobby car, a 1947 Buick Roadmaster, which they have restored to its original condition. Robert de Niro drove their Buick in the movie "Men of Honor" (2000).
