5th Finglish trip July 2007 #33

Jason, Ella, Richard and William Koski represent four generations of musicians. Jason is a photographer and his father Richard is a carpenter. Together with their band called Toivo, they play gigs with a repertoire ranging from Irish to Finnish folk music.

William’s father came from Ilmajoki to work in a mine in Michigan. William was born in Negaunee, Michigan. He first worked as a logger in Michigan but moved to the Finger Lakes region of New York State in the 1940s to be a chicken farmer. William Koski later worked as a carpenter. Music, however, was always part of the picture; William played the fiddle at various Finnish celebrations and meetings.
