5th Finglish trip July 2007 #5

Carl Pellonpaa of Ishpeming, Michigan has hosted the Sunday-morning ”Suomi Kutsuu” (Finland Calling) program on television in Marquette, Michigan, since 1961. Before ending in 2015, it was the longest running Finnish-language television program in the United States. This popular program featured birthday greetings, folk music, commercials and interviews with Finnish guests.

Carl already produced radio programs as a high school student. When his promising baseball career was cut short by a hunting accident, he became a news reporter on television. Carl Pellonpaa has organized visits to Finland and the Nordic countries. His parents came to America from Ähtäri and Vaasa at the beginning of the 20th century.
