Udora Cedar Park 2005

2nd Finglish trip August 2005 #14

Bill and Marjatta Kunnas, Ossi Putkonen and Reijo Pesonen are among the Finnish Canadians who spend the summer at the Cedar Park, Finnish cabin resort in Udora Ontario, some 90 kilometers north from Toronto. Next door to the Cedar Park is the Estonian Canadians Summer Camp - Jõekääru.

There are over a hundred cabins at Udora Cedar Park, and there are many more people who would like build cabins there, but zoning regulations do not permit them. Owners of the cabin sites must be of Finnish descent.

There are lots of Finnish activities in the area: the Finnish Social Club, the Cedar Club, the Lions Club, a shooting club, saunas etc. On summer weekends, the shared sauna at the bend of the river is used. Finns within a large area come to celebrate Midsummer at Udora.

Vapaa Sana reporter Emma-Leena Ovaskainen made this story (in Finnish) of our visit.
