The Leinonen homestead became the property of Jacob Leinonen in1904. At first, a log sauna and other outbuildings were erected. The present main building was constructed about ten years later. The farm has been in the Leinonen family for over 100 years.

Anna and Jacob Leinonen came to America from Karstula in 1887. The grandfather worked for ten years on a ship in order to pay for the fare. The couple had seven daughters and William, Denver's father. The present owner of the farm, Denver Leinonen spends the summers in Covington. He speaks excellent Finnish.
